Reason
Please be advised that Mauritania, pursuant to Article 16.2, requires additional time to notify its definitive dates for Category B provisions. Consequently, Mauritania requests that the WTO Committee on Trade Facilitation consider extending the deadline for Mauritania to notify its definitive dates for Category B provisions until 31 May 2021. Our request for a deadline extension is based on the following: 1. Following the self-assessment carried out in March 2019, a new government was formed in August 2019 and the Ministry of Trade was restructured. As part of this process, the organizational charts of the various administrations were redefined, with new officials being appointed to office only recently. In light of the above, implementation of Category B commitments under the Agreement on Trade Facilitation would not be feasible within the previously established deadlines. 2. Moreover, as assistance and support for capacity building to enable implementation of the Agreement on Trade Facilitation have not been provided before the prescribed deadlines, the administrations in question are lacking sufficient human resources to effectively fulfil their mandate.
